Willmar’s Adult Basic Education (ABE) serves students from over 40 different countries who are seeking a resource that can help them learn English, earn their GED, achieve citizenship and prepare for college. The mission of ABE is to educate and empower adult learners to become active members of the community and workforce.
One need within ABE is for a designated space for students to gather during their break times between classes, where they can meet other students and teachers, share meals and be connected to community resources. Through Idea Fund funding, the staff and students at ABE will create this space, enhancing the sense of community while providing students with information about valuable community resources they may not be aware of, such as Central Minnesota Jobs and Training Services (CMJTS), Ridgewater College, Public Health through Kandiyohi County Health and Human Services and transportation services through Central Community Transit (CCT).
Work on the space began in April, and the grand opening is planned for early September.
