The Village Children’s Museum, a multicultural children’s museum and community gathering space, is a newly created non-profit organization with the mission to provide a cultural, academic, and physical form of activity to the Willmar Lakes Area. The objective of this project is to create a space that encourages cross-cultural relationships to be formed by both children and adults.
This project will encourage learning about the multitude of cultures in the Willmar area through special events and programs, while making a welcoming and inviting space. The belief that children naturally learn through play influenced the setup of the space, which provides the opportunity for educational learning through play, including large motor activities available to young children who are developing those skills and need space to practice.
Through this project, health will be improved by providing a space for children to be active and explore, especially during Minnesota’s colder months. The Village is a place for children to be active physically, emotionally and mentally. When children are given the opportunity to learn through exploration, their excitement and desire for learning and activity will improve their overall health over their lifetime, and for generations to come.
